Surgical Associates of Charleston has many years of experience in the surgical treatment of breast cancer. Our practice collectively performs over 500 breast surgeries annually. Our surgeons are skilled in the latest breast surgery techniques and in interpretation of Breast MRI and other breast imaging treatment methods. Gallbladder removal is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures. Our skilled surgeons have a high level of expertise in this surgery, collectively performing hundreds of these procedures annually. In most all cases, the gallbladder can be removed laparoscopically, allowing for faster recovery.

A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue squeezes through a hole or a weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue of the abdominal wall. The most common types are inguinal, incisional, femoral, umbilical and hiatal.
Our surgeons are experienced in hernia repair, collectively performing over 500 procedures a year. They can discuss surgical options with you and determine the best course of treatment.

Minimally invasive surgery (including laparoscopy) is a surgical technique during which the surgeon makes small incisions and, using a video camera and specialized instruments, performs surgery with minimal impact on surrounding muscle and tissue.
Some of the advantages to minimally invasive surgery over conventional surgery include:
• Less impact on the body
• Shorter hospital stays
• Faster recovery and return to normal activities

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a term used to collectively describe the problems and symptoms that occur when acid from the stomach washes up into the esophagus.
Surgery is a common option for patients who continue to experience problems despite lifestyle modifications and medication.
Laparoscopic surgery can be performed to correct GERD in most cases.
